Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Steel

Transformer core require perfect magnetic property. CRGO is the short abbreviation of cold rolled grain oriented steel. The mechanical elasticity is high and magnetic property is matched for proper induction of core. Transformer has two loss named hysteresis loss and eddy current loss. CRGO is used to minimize this loss. CRGO's grain are aligned in direction of rolling. CRGO has exceptional lamination factor and less material required for transformer design.

While manufacturing CRGO, levels of carbon, nitrogen and oxygen must be kept lower level for avoiding formation of carbides. These compound are responsible for increase of hysteresis loss as well as contribute to decrease transformer efficiency. The size of core is normally 0.3 mm to .25 mm. Generally 3% of silicon composition makes the sheet brittle and increase resistivity and decrease losses for the contribution of eddy current.

What is CRGO?

The function of a transformer is to transform power from one voltage to another voltage. Transformer is an electrical machine and core is integral part of transformer. Among other parts, transformer has casing, oil, tapping, coil etc. Cold rolled grain steel is supplied as role. By proper cutting, it is used as transformer lamination for core. Iron is perfect for magnetism, however silicon (Si) and iron (Fe) can improve magnetic property of iron. A transformer has two type of losses, one is hysteresis loss and another is eddy current loss. CRGO reduces eddy current loss in steel which increase transformer efficiency. CRGO improves magnetic permeability.
